iSMA Pulse Input Modules for Meter Reading
Pulse input modules provide a convenient method of
integrating compatible utility meters into centralised
monitoring and building management systems.
Many water, heat and electricity meters are equipped
with pulse outputs that represent measured consumption.
By connecting these outputs to an appropriate iSMA
input module, pulse information can be made available
to a compatible BMS or data collection system,
enabling remote monitoring, consumption analysis
and automated meter-reading applications.
The range includes dedicated 8-input and 24-input
modules, providing a scalable approach to connecting
multiple meters within a single installation.
Meter pulse characteristics and electrical compatibility
should be checked before connection.
iSMA-B-8I and iSMA-B-24I-H Pulse Input Modules
The iSMA-B-8I provides
8 pulse inputs for connecting compatible
metering devices. It is particularly useful for
smaller installations requiring several consumption
meters to be monitored through a common communication
interface.
The iSMA-B-24I-H extends this capability
to 24 pulse inputs, offering a higher-density
solution for installations with larger numbers of
connected meters.
- 8 or 24 pulse input channels
- RS485 communication on standard versions
- IP communication versions available
- Modbus and BACnet integration options
- DIN rail mounting
- 24V power supply
- Suitable for multi-meter monitoring systems
iSMA-B-8U Universal Input Module
The iSMA-B-8U provides
8 universal inputs for integration
of compatible field signals into a building
management or automation system.
Universal input modules are useful where a system
needs to collect information from different types
of field devices, such as sensors, monitoring
equipment and control interfaces.
Standard and IP versions are available, allowing
the module to be selected according to the
communication infrastructure of the installation.
Supported signal types and input ranges should
be confirmed against the manufacturer's datasheet.
iSMA-B-4I4O-H Digital Input & Output Module
The iSMA-B-4I4O-H combines
4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs
within a single I/O module.
This configuration is suitable for building
automation applications requiring both the
monitoring of digital status signals and the
operation of compatible control equipment.
- 4 digital inputs
- 4 digital outputs
- Modbus and BACnet communication options
- Standard RS485 and IP versions
- DIN rail installation
- 24V power supply
iSMA Mixed Digital & Analogue I/O Modules
The iSMA-B-MIX18 and
iSMA-B-MIX38 combine multiple input
and output types within individual modules.
These configurations are designed for more complex
building automation applications where several
field signals and control outputs are required.
iSMA-B-MIX18 — 18 I/O Channels
- 5 digital inputs
- 5 universal inputs
- 4 analogue outputs
- 4 digital outputs
- 10 inputs and 8 outputs in total
iSMA-B-MIX38 — 38 I/O Channels
- 12 digital inputs
- 8 universal inputs
- 6 analogue outputs
- 12 digital outputs
- 20 inputs and 18 outputs in total
Both models are available with serial communication
or IP connectivity. IP versions provide additional
network integration options, including the
Modbus TCP/IP gateway functionality described
in the supplier catalogue.
BACnet and Modbus Communication Protocols
The iSMA I/O module range supports widely used
communication protocols for integration into
building management and automation systems.
-
Modbus RTU/ASCII: Serial communication protocols commonly used for industrial monitoring, metering and automation equipment.
-
BACnet MS/TP: RS485-based BACnet communication used in building management systems.
-
Modbus TCP/IP: Ethernet-based Modbus communication for compatible IP networks.
-
BACnet IP: Network communication for integration with compatible IP-based building automation systems.
Protocol availability depends on the module
and selected version. The appropriate communication
interface should be confirmed before ordering.
Standard RS485 and IP Module Versions
Standard versions are intended
for serial communication networks using RS485,
with Modbus RTU/ASCII and BACnet MS/TP
communication options.
IP versions provide network
communication options using Modbus TCP/IP
or BACnet IP. These are suitable where
communication over an IP network is required
instead of, or in conjunction with, serial
field-level communication.
Typical Applications
- Building management systems (BMS)
- Automated water meter reading
- Heat and energy meter monitoring
- Electricity consumption monitoring
- Multi-tenant utility metering
- Commercial building automation
- Plant room monitoring and control
- Energy management systems
- Pulse data acquisition
- Integration of compatible field sensors and control devices
Choosing the Correct iSMA I/O Module
Selecting the appropriate module depends on
the number and type of input and output channels,
the connected equipment and the required
communication protocol.
-
8 pulse inputs: iSMA-B-8I
-
24 pulse inputs: iSMA-B-24I-H
