Sontex Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440 Energy Meter
Modular static thermal energy metering for larger commercial and industrial applications requiring a broad size range, advanced communications and flexible system configuration.
The Sontex Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440 combines the Superstatic 440 static flow sensor with the Supercal 5 energy calculator to provide a highly configurable thermal energy-metering solution for larger and more demanding applications.
With sizes extending from 1/2" through to DN250, the system covers a considerably wider range of flow rates and pipe sizes than Sontex's compact Superstatic 749 and 789 meters, making it particularly suitable for commercial plant rooms, industrial installations, district-energy networks and larger building-services systems.
M-Bus and open-collector pulse output are provided as standard, with additional communication options including Modbus, BACnet and analogue 4–20mA, allowing the meter to integrate with a wide range of automatic meter-reading, building-management and industrial control systems.

Modular Metering System
Unlike a compact heat meter where the calculator and flow sensor form part of a single meter package, the Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440 provides a modular thermal energy-metering solution.
The Superstatic 440 measures the volume of the heat-transfer medium while the Supercal 5 calculator uses this information together with the flow and return temperatures to calculate the thermal energy consumed.
This modular approach provides considerably greater flexibility for larger installations, particularly where the calculator needs to be positioned away from the flow sensor or where more advanced communication and integration options are required.
1/2" to DN250 Meter Range
One of the principal advantages of the Superstatic 440 is its exceptionally broad size range. The system can be specified for smaller threaded installations through to large DN250 flanged applications.
This allows the same Sontex metering platform to be used across projects containing significantly different pipe sizes and flow requirements, from smaller commercial circuits through to major plant and district-energy installations.
Sontex Static Measurement Technology
The Superstatic 440 uses Sontex's established fluid-oscillation measuring principle rather than a conventional mechanical turbine or impeller.
The flowing medium generates an oscillating flow pattern within the measuring chamber, which is detected and used to determine the volume passing through the flow sensor.
Because there is no conventional turbine or impeller, the flow sensor contains no moving mechanical measuring components subject to normal mechanical wear.
Supercal 5 Energy Calculator
At the centre of the system is the Sontex Supercal 5 energy calculator. The calculator processes the measured flow together with the flow and return temperatures to determine the thermal energy transferred by the system.
Its modular architecture provides considerably greater communication and system-integration flexibility than is normally available from a compact energy meter, making the Supercal 5 particularly suited to commercial and industrial installations.
Advanced Communication Options
Communication flexibility is one of the major advantages of the Supercal 5. M-Bus and open-collector pulse output are provided as standard, allowing straightforward integration into many conventional metering systems.
Additional communication options are available for applications requiring integration with building-management, industrial-control or more advanced energy-monitoring systems.
- M-Bus – standard wired automatic meter-reading communication
- Open-collector pulse – standard pulse output for compatible monitoring equipment
- Modbus – suitable for integration with compatible building and industrial control systems
- BACnet – suitable for compatible building-management systems
- Analogue 4–20mA – suitable for compatible industrial and control applications
MID Class 2 Energy Meter
The Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440 system is available as a MID Class 2 thermal energy meter to EN 1434, providing an approved metering solution for applications requiring compliant thermal energy measurement.

Superstatic 749, 789 or Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440?
The Superstatic 749 and 789 are compact energy meters intended primarily for smaller residential and light commercial applications. The principal difference between these two compact models is the flow sensor body construction: the 749 has a brass body, while the 789 has a composite body.
The Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440 is the more appropriate choice where larger pipe sizes, higher flow rates, a separate modular calculator or more advanced communications are required. With sizes extending through to DN250 and options including Modbus, BACnet and 4–20mA, it is designed for substantially larger and more complex metering systems.
Why Choose the Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440?
The Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440 is particularly well suited where a large, modular and highly configurable static energy-metering system is required. Its 1/2" to DN250 size range, static flow-measurement principle, separate Supercal 5 calculator and extensive communication options make it an excellent choice for larger commercial, industrial and district-energy applications.
Need Help Selecting the Correct Supercal 5 / Superstatic 440?
